In September, we posted a survey in the Teaching4Tomorrow blog asking two questions:
1. What was your biggest back-to-school challenge?
2. What is your most effective way to communicate with your parent community?
We received many responses and now we want to share our findings with you. We learned that the most common challenge among educators was a lack of both materials and time for room preparation. Staff-related issues were next on the list, ranging from staff reassignments to a lack of support personnel. The third most popular answer was difficulty finding resources. Other answers included student behaviors, curriculum, routine, new tasks, finding motivation, and parent interactions.
We also asked educators to share their most effective method of parent communication with us. Once we gathered the results, we were able to see that an overwhelming number of educators still use email to communicate with their parent community. Other popular answers were parent portals, apps, and social media platforms. Respondents listed both PowerSchool and Fast Direct as preferred parent portals, while educators using apps cited Remind and Class Dojo as their go-to tool. We discovered that social media platforms were equally distributed between Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
This survey allowed us to better understand the challenges faced by educators today. We plan on using this information to curate more relevant resources for you. Your interaction and participation in this survey was greatly appreciated.
