Simulations for Understanding Experiences of Children with Dyslexia
Developed by the Dyslexia Training Institute, Dyslexia for a Day: A Simulation of Dyslexia is a kit designed for use by individuals or groups of experienced teachers, teacher-training candidates, practitioners, immediate and extended family members, or anyone interested in learning more about dyslexia and what those with dyslexia often experience with reading, writing, and processing. The kit walks participants through five simulations: two reading, two writing, and one processing simulation. It is comprised of a full-length DVD, a Handbook, and Master Copies for use in completing the simulations. The DVD includes interviews with two children and their mothers about their journeys with dyslexia; a group of participants experiencing all five simulations and their reactions and reflections; and a PowerPoint presentation required for the processing simulation. The Handbook is a step-by-step guide for completing the simulations as an individual or implementing the simulations with a group. It includes information on the purpose of each simulation, the way it was designed, and the way the simulation relates to dyslexia. It also includes a Resource section. The cost of the kit is $149.
The Anne Ford Scholarship is granted to a graduating high school senior with a documented learning disability (LD) and/or ADHD, who will be enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program in the fall of 2018.
Noah Text is a specialized text font designed to help new readers, struggling readers, and those with dyslexia. The special text design increases both reading fluency and reading speed, allowing individuals to have a more relaxed reading experience.
