Making an Immigrant Story, a free curriculum from the Immigration History Research Center at the University of Minnesota, supports the teaching and learning of Immigrant Stories in the classroom with lesson plans, simple technical instructions, classroom activities, a grading rubric, and a student resource packet. The digital stories in the Immigrant Stories collection are important primary sources for teaching and learning about immigration. The researchers worked with the Advocates for Human Rights to create this curriculum for grade 8–adult learners. The units in the curriculum address the many complex reasons people immigrate to the United States and present refugee experiences, past and present. The research center’s website provides a free downloadable curriculum for teachers of English language learners, a user’s guide for the storymaking website, and lessons that use existing Immigrant Stories to teach about US immigration history.
