Blue Lightning Labs has developed Mathemagics: Mental Math Tricks, an iOS app that helps students multiply, divide, and square at lightning speed. Students learn and practice the tricks of mental math calculation, progressing through various levels of proficiency. They can use Mathemagics to prepare for the math section of standardized tests and entrance exams or as a tutor to improve test-taking abilities. The math lessons include multiplying as high as 20 x 20; multiplying any number by 99; dividing any number by 5; multiplying two close numbers; adding two- and three-digit numbers; checking addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by casting nines; and more. Cost: $2.99

The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) pioneered Design–Make–Play, a novel approach to learning and engagement, drawing on deeper learning research and supporting the creation of learning experiences that develop critical thinking, knowledge integration, innovation, and creativity skills.
The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) has administered the NSF–AWM Travel Grant Program for Women since 1988, supporting both travel to domestic or foreign research conferences and, more recently, longer-term visits with a mentor. The Mathematics Travel Grants provide full or partial support for travel and subsistence for a meeting or conference in applicants’ fields of specialization, giving them a valuable opportunity to advance their research activities and their visibility in the research community.
