The biannual National Cyber League (NCL) Competition simulates real-life cyberthreats in a safe environment for high school students to learn how to defend organizations against such threats and keep them secure. The NCL challenges are based on nine critical cybersecurity workforce categories mapped to the NIST NICE Cybersecurity Framework and NSA Knowledge Units (Open Source Intelligence, Cryptography, Password Cracking, Log Analysis, Network Traffic Analysis, Forensics, Web App Exploitation, Scanning, Enumeration & Exploitation). With easy, medium, and hard challenges, NCL allows players of all levels to participate. NCL hosts competitions twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, aligning to US academic calendars. Each NCL season includes the Gymnasium, Preseason, Individual Game, and Team Game. All participants play the games simultaneously during Preseason, Individual Game, and Team Game. The NCL Competition is powered by Cyber Skyline, a cloud-based cybersecurity skills evaluation platform offering a safe environment for students to practice their cybersecurity skills.
