Designed for the iPad, Western Philosophers teaches the timeless wisdom of some of the greatest minds in human history—from ancient Greeks to modern thought leaders—and does so with a twist: it presents snippets of philosophers’ works in a social media-like feed. (For example, @soc_it_to_me is the app’s handle for Socrates!) Users start in the Stone section, where they can browse by category (ethics, feminism, metaphysics, and more). Or they can search for luminaries such as W. E. B. Du Bois, John Locke, and Mary Wollstonecraft—while keeping an eye out for more clever handles. They can test their wisdom in the Quiz section, and in the AR section, they can see a virtual copy of John Paul Sartre’s Being and Nothingness on their desk or snap an augmented-reality Platonic selfie!
