Competition Celebrating Mathematical Talent

Sponsored by the American Mathematical Society, Who Wants to Be a Mathematician is a competition in which high school students compete for cash and prizes by answering multiple-choice mathematics questions. The questions are taken from precalculus mathematics and may include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, combinatorics, mathematics history, and logic. The semifinal winners go on to the finals to determine the first-prizewinning student and school. Both the winning student and the sponsoring school’s mathematics department will receive cash prizes of up to $5,000. Interested applicants will find this opportunity on GetEdFunding, a free database sponsored by CDW•G of thousands of funding opportunities for educators.

Deadlines: Qualifying for the first round of the competition begins on September 11, 2017, and ends on September 25, 2017; finals will take place at the 2018 Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Diego on January 13, 2018.
