Engineering Design Challenge to Solve Real-World Problems

The Tech Challenge, the signature program of The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California, invites teams of students in grades 4–12 to use the engineering design process to solve a real-world problem. Participants spend months engaged in the challenge while documenting their progress and designs. The program culminates in an two-day showcase at the Tech Museum, where teams put their solutions to the test in front of judges. The theme of the 2020 challenge is Launch, Land, Explore! Awards are given in categories such as Outstanding Engineering Design Process, Outstanding Device Performance, Best Team Safety, Best Sportsmanship, even Best Costume. The challenge is presented by Dell Technologies. Registration is now open; teams will showcase their work in front of judges, supporters, and community members at the Tech Museum on April 25 and 26, 2020.

Plus: The Tech Challenge Video Contest, presented by Arm, is an opportunity for students to share their journey, detail their process, and show off the devices they’ve built. Videos may focus on an awesome moment, a cool design, their brainstorming process, an epic fail, or their adventure as a whole. The top videos will receive an award and be played during the showcase. Contestants must be registered participants of The Tech Challenge 2020. Entries are due by 11:59 p.m. (PT) on April 9, 2020.
