Hosted by the Chicago Architecture Center, the second annual Girls Build! event will take place virtually on January 9, 2021, from 10 a.m. to noon (CT). Girls aged 10–16 will hear from female professionals who work on environmentally friendly design projects and take part in activities led by leading cultural institutions. The program will focus on sustainable futures and begin with a panel discussion among women in the field and continue with breakout activity sessions led by esteemed partner organizations. Presenters include Camille Applewhite, landscape architect and cofounder of BlackSpace Chicago; Dori del Río Velez, architectural designer at CannonDesign; Fawn Pochel, educator coordinator at the American Indian Center of Chicago; and representatives from the Center for Architecture in New York, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Discovery Channel, and many more. The event is free with advance registration.
