Grants to Support Classroom Teaching of Earth Science
In honor of Dorothy Stout, the first female president of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT), and her outstanding work and lifelong dedication to earth science education, NAGT awards professional development grants to K–12 teachers to support participation in earth science classes or workshops and field trips, attendance at professional scientific or science education meetings, and purchase of classroom materials. Grant winners will receive $750, as well as a one-year membership to NAGT, which includes an online subscription to the Journal of Geoscience Education and In The Trenches magazine. The KidWind Project and WindWinRI are hosting the twelfth annual REcharge Academy at the University of Rhode Island’s Coastal Resources Center in Narragansett, Rhode Island, on July 15–18, 2019. The four-day training will focus on wind power and the future of offshore wind.
Teachers in grades 6–12 are invited to attend one of the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s weeklong institutes in the nation’s capital. Participants will join other educators from across the country in exploring the connections among American art and social studies, history, and English/language arts.
