The Botball Educational Robotics Program engages middle school and high school students in a team-oriented robotics competition and serves as a way to meet the Next Generation Science and Common Core Standards. By exposing students to an inquiry-based, learn-by-doing activity, Botball addresses the nation’s need for a well-prepared, creative, yet disciplined workforce with leadership and teamwork experience. In February and March, the Botball Educator Workshops will provide team leaders and mentors with technology training and introduce the details of this year’s game. Then, after a build period of about seven weeks, students bring their robots to a regional tournament to compete against other students in the current season’s game challenge. Students use science, technology, engineering, math, and writing skills to design, build, program, and document their robots in a hands-on project that reinforces their learning. Botball is a program of the KISSInstitute for Practical Robotics (KIPR). The registration fee includes the team leaders’ workshops, robotics equipment, and more. KIPR offers a limited number of team scholarships in the form of a fee waiver.
Intelitek’s CoderZonline learning environment helps students worldwide learn STEM by coding virtual 3D robots. The Robotics & Coding STEM Curriculum teaches students to solve STEM problems through code, using mathematics and engineering to overcome challenges.
In October the Intelitek STEM and CTE Education Foundation (ISCEF) kicks off the 2018 Cyber Robotics Coding Competitions (CRCCs) in 14 states and the District of Columbia. The CRCCs are the first-of-its-kind, free-to-participate, online coding and robotics tournament for students in grades 5–9 that enables schools and districts to engage students in STEM learning by using game-based competitions that are both safe and fun.
