Practices for Becoming an Effective Education Leader

The Wallace Foundation recommends five principles all leaders should aspire to adapt: a successful academic vision, a focused learning climate, a model of distributed leadership, solid instruction, and management with an eye toward improvement. How can education leaders put these recommendations into action? Learning Forward‘s The Principal Story Learning Guide uses clips from the award-winning PBS documentary The Principal Story, paired with activities, research, and reflection, to help leaders understand and implement those leadership practices in their own settings. The five-part professional development unit is available online for free.

Plus: Practitioners in school and out-of-school programs share their experiences working together to help children develop social–emotional skills in the Wallace Foundation’s five-episode Partnerships for Social and Emotional Learning Podcast.
