All Star Code is a nonprofit computer science education organization focused on developing a new generation of entrepreneurs. Through its Summer Intensive program, a six-week coding bootcamp, and continued Alumni Services, the organization gives young, motivated Black and Latino men the skills, networks, and mindsets they need to succeed in a technological world. The program’s curriculum has a weekly theme: week 1 focuses on the fundamentals of JavaScript; week 2 on game design; weeks 3 and 4 on web design and web development, week 5 on APIs and databases, and week 6 culminates in a demo-day group project presentation to guests. Details about each theme, the core skills developed, and the milestone expectations are displayed on All Star Code’s curriculum webpage, along with examples of weekly schedules, lecture slides, a code-along, and a project. All Star Code also gives mentors the information, materials, and context they need to make a positive impact on the scholars. The site presents a comprehensive list of resources to incorporate into a mentorship practice. The mentor resources are organized around these topics: Growth Mindset, Conversations about Masculinity, Program Timeline and Each Week’s Topics, Expectations, and FAQs. A short informational video helps mentors get acquainted with All Star Code and the mentoring process.
