A new interactive national report shows how states are performing based on 10 STEM benchmarks. The STEM Opportunity Index, developed by the National Math and Science Initiative, SRI International, and 100Kin10, looks at more than 100 public datasets and puts the results into an interactive map that compares how states are doing across 10 conditions, practices, and outcomes demonstrating STEM success rates. These indicators include policies and funding, teacher preparation, educator quality, instructional resources, and STEM education outcomes. Datasets incorporated into the map include Next Generation Science Standards and ISTEstandards adopted, proficiencies in math and reading for fourth and eighth graders from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, and ACT test benchmark scores in STEM, science, English, and reading.
ASM Teacher Materials Camp is a weeklong, idea-generating workshop introducing teachers to methods that will make core math and science principles more enticing and relevant to their middle school and high school students. The materials topics are motivators in any engineering, technology, or science course as students complete projects of personal worth to them.
An initiative of Microsoft Philanthropies, TEALS (Technology Education and Literacy in Schools) helps high schools throughout the United States and in British Columbia, Canada, build and grow sustainable computer science programs. TEALS pairs trained computer science professionals from across the technology industry with classroom teachers to team-teach computer science.
