Amazon has enabled Alexa users to donate money toward back-to-school supplies for children in need. Users simply say, “Alexa, donate to Happy School Year,” to be guided through a $25 donation to fill a student backpack. Each pack will be filled with school supplies (including pencils, pens, a ruler, and a notebook) before it’s shipped directly by Amazon to the nonprofit Communities In Schools. Amazon will match the first $200,000. The donations are tax deductible, and donors will receive a thank-you message via Alexa from Shaquille O’Neal, former NBA player and member of the Communities In Schools National Board.

The foundation offers matching grants whereby schools and nonprofit organizations raise at least half the funds to purchase the requested number of instruments, using a provider authorized by the foundation or, after discussion with the foundation, an alternate provider of instruments of similar quality.
