The National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) is hosting a series of virtual webinars under the umbrella of Teach Different. One of the webinars is “Teach Different with Sophocles: An online conversation with your students on Success and Hardship,” which will take place on December 10, 2020. This virtual event is aligned to the NCSS C3 Framework’s Inquiry Arc, which introduces a three-step teaching method for holding online SEL conversations with claims, counterclaims, and questions, and shows how to connect these conversations with curriculum. Participants will learn a scalable go-to routine and acquire practical tools for starting and managing an online conversation using a famous quote from Greek playwright Sophocles: “There is no success without hardship.”
Plus: In 2121, educators are invited to join NCSS and Teach Different in SEL conversations featuring different authors, themes, and quotations aligned to historical events: “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: An online conversation with your students on Conflict” (January 14, 2021); “Harriet Tubman: An online conversation with your students on Dreams” (February 11, 2021); and “Audre Lorde: An online conversation with your students on Self-Expression” (March 11, 2021).
