Tools to Engage in Citizen Science Activities

The GLOBE Observer app extends the reach of NASA’s GLOBE Program by providing a way for citizen scientists to make observations and contribute to the GLOBE community. GLOBE observations help scientists to track changes in clouds, water, plants, and other life in support of Earth system science research. GLOBE Observer currently includes four main tools: Clouds, Mosquito Habitat Mapper, Land Cover, and Trees. Students simply download the app, go outside, and follow the prompts in the app to observe their environment and then submit their data to GLOBE. By submitting their observations, students of all ages are doing real scientific research as part of the GLOBE Program. Everyone can participate, including GLOBE alumni and retired GLOBE teachers, families, and others in the local community. Future versions of GLOBE Observer will include additional tools to help users further contribute to the global scientific community. Cost: Free
