Virtual Hike Through the Grand Canyon

The US Grand Canyon is one of the deepest gorges on Earth, and one of only a few places for exploring 2 billion years of Earth’s history. Students can experience this remarkable natural wonder by taking an independent virtual tour. For example, they can hike to Phantom Ranch on the Corridor Trails or travel on a raft down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Or they can dig deeper through a guided exploration, such as the virtual ranger-led walking tour from Bright Angel Trailhead to Maricopa Point. The Canyon Field School @Home environmental education program brings the wonders of Grand Canyon National Park to youth across the country. This collaboration between Grand Canyon Conservancy and the National Park Service provides engaging, curriculum-based activities and experiences for middle school and high school students through online videos and freely downloadable activity books. Videos—including audio-described versions—from the program’s first four modules are accessible online. The modules include lessons on geology, ecology, dark sky, and cultural history of the Grand Canyon.
