Washing Hands to Stay Healthy

Did you know that hand washing with soap and water can reduce sickness by up to 45 percent? Project WET has created “When Should You Wash Your Hands?”/”¿Cuándo debe Lavarse Las Manos?”—a freely downloadable poster, in English and Spanish, to inform children of why and when they should wash their hands. One side of the poster is in full color; the other side, also in English and Spanish, lets children color the poster themselves. The poster includes the lyrics of The Hand Washing Song / ¡Pruebe Esto!, which children can sing to the tune of Frère Jacques. The hand-washing song lasts about 20 seconds, the amount of time children should spend washing their hands to prevent illness—at any time, but especially during the threat of COVID-19.

Plus: Teachers, parents, administrators, and childcare and healthcare providers will find more hand-washing activities in Project WET’s freely downloadable activity booklet Healthy Water, Healthy Habits, Healthy People and accompanying Educators Guide.
