Are you unsure of where to start in supporting English learners with exceptional needs? Many educators do not receive training in this critical and complex area, and it can be overwhelming to try to figure it all out on their own. In TESOL’s new online course, “Supporting English Learners with Exceptional Needs,” teachers can build their knowledge of English learners with disabilities and engage in discussions, activities, and projects that will prepare them to help learners reach their potential.

April is Autism Awareness Month, and Apple is marking the occasion by posting a digital art gallery of works created by artists on the autism spectrum. The project, which is curated by the nonprofit Art of Autism, is being unveiled over the course of the month. “Created on iPad Gallery” features the work of 15 artists from the autistic community who hail from across the US and Canada. The participants have differing abilities and are different ages. In addition to sharing the work of these artists, teachers and parents can tap these free programs to support educating children with autism and other special needs:

Learning to code is about learning how to solve problems, work with others in creative ways, and think in a new language. Teaching children with autism employs the same skills—creating logical connections, breaking tasks into smaller parts and sequencing them—but it is also much more.
